Welcome to the We Are the Change Capacity-building curriculum for AGYW-serving and -led community Organisation assessment tool

This assessment tool marks the beginning of your journey in rapid testing and capacity building as a community-based organisation. This tool will evaluate your organisation’s knowledge and strengths fostering valuable discussions on how to enhance organisational development and management. This assessment is a crucial component of the We Are The Change Capacity-building curriculum for AGYW-serving and -led community Organisations.

You can complete this assessment with a small group of people from your organisation, with one person recording answers after group discussions for each section. The goal is to encourage productive conversations around areas where your organisation may require additional capacity building. Be sure to allocate sufficient time to complete this assessment; including discussions, it typically takes around 3-4 hours to complete.

The assessment tool is suitable for all community-based organisations but was developed specifically for community-based organisations led by and serving adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

This initiative is implemented by PATA, Y+Global and Her Voice, on behalf of the Global Fund Community Rights and Gender AGYW Strategic Initiative.

Guide to completing the assessment

This tool evaluates your organisational capacities in various areas, including governance, planning, finance, sustainability, human resources and administration, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and networking, community, human rights and gender, and AGYW programming. Based on your responses, your scores will highlight areas that require improvement to enhance sustainability and impact.

The first section is your organisational profile, consisting of general questions about your organisation. This is followed by six areas that relate to organisational development, with the last area focused on AGYW programming.
Each capacity area page has the same sequence:
- Starting with an open-ended question, which is designed to kick off the discussion.
- Next, a series of questions about the different components under that capacity area. Discuss each question as it applies to your organisation.
- Note down any comments to explain your score, as well as capacity building needs, actions to address needs and resources needed.
When you have completed the assessment, you will see your dashboard with an overview of your scores for the different capacity areas. This will help you to identify which capacity areas need to be prioritised in the We Are the Change Capacity-building curriculum for AGYW-serving and -led community Organisations.
